Oando CEO Wale Tinubu Honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award at Africa Energy Week 2025
CAPE TOWN, South Africa — The Group Chief Executive of Oando Plc, Wale Tinubu, has received the Lifetime Achievement Award at Africa Energy Week (AEW) 2025, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Africa’s energy sector.
The award, considered one of AEW’s most prestigious honours, is presented annually to leaders whose vision, resilience, and impact have shaped the continent’s energy landscape. Past recipients include Afreximbank President Prof. Benedict Oramah (2024), Namibia’s late President Hage Geingob, Senegal’s former President Macky Sall (2023), and Congo’s Hydrocarbons Minister Bruno Itoua (2022).
In conferring the award, the Africa Energy Chamber praised Tinubu’s role in advancing energy security, steering Oando through challenging times, and proving the strength of indigenous companies in driving industrial growth across Africa.
Tinubu, who transformed Oando from a local downstream operator into a multinational energy player with interests in exploration, production, power, and renewables, was hailed as a symbol of African ambition and resilience.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is reserved for industry leaders whose careers span decades and whose work leaves a lasting legacy. The Chamber described Tinubu’s recognition as “a fitting tribute to a leader who inspires belief in Africa’s potential and the power of its people.”
