The Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria and Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has led a Nigerian delegation to China for a two-week advanced training on metaverse technology and digital innovation.

The programme, titled Metaverse Technology Cooperation and Development Mode for Belt and Road Countries, was held in Shanghai and organised by the International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders (CIFAL) under the leadership of its Executive Director, Mr. Wu Yugang.

It brought together policymakers and administrators from across the globe to examine how emerging technologies are reshaping governance, communication, and service delivery.

During the sessions, participants engaged in academic lectures and practical workshops on key themes, including Development Trends and Prospects in Metaverse Technology and Industry and Metaverse × AIGC: Generative AI Reshaping the Digital World.

The training was facilitated by distinguished professors from leading Chinese universities and industry experts.

The Nigerian Speakers’ delegation also embarked on field visits to major technology and innovation hubs in Shanghai and Chengdu.

These included SPSpace, Dunyu (Shanghai) Internet Science and Technology Co. Ltd, Shanghai Kerui Exhibition Technology Co. Ltd, China Unicom (Chengdu) Limited, Zhisheng Digital Technology Co. Ltd, and the Chengdu Huaxi Ecological Agriculture Technology Co. Ltd.

The visits offered participants hands-on exposure to advanced applications of metaverse technology and artificial intelligence in various industries.

In addition to the academic and professional engagements, the programme featured cultural activities such as tours of the Bund and Yu Garden in Shanghai, a Huangpu River night cruise, and a visit to the Giant Panda Conservation and Research Centre in Dujiangyan.

Reflecting on the experience, Ogundoyin described the training as both “timely and transformative,” stressing that the metaverse and generative AI will play a central role in shaping the future of governance, education, and public service.

He noted that the knowledge gained would be applied to drive digital policy innovation across Nigerian state legislatures.
