Ondo SDP Governorship Candidate, Bamidele Akingboye, Passes Away

The candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2024 Ondo State governorship election, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, has passed away.

Akingboye, popularly known as OBA, reportedly died on the morning of Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at his Lagos residence.

Confirming his passing in a statement, his aide, Oyeniyi Iwakun, said burial details will be communicated in due course. “He is survived by wives, children, grandchildren, and siblings. The family requested privacy during this period of grief. Burial arrangements will be communicated in due course,” the statement read.

As of the time of filing this report, the cause of his death has not been disclosed.

Akingboye contested the November 16, 2024, Ondo governorship election on the platform of the SDP but lost to the incumbent governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
