Orji Kalu Calls for Political Solution in Nnamdi Kanu’s Case, Urges Respect for Court Ruling

Former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Kalu, has urged a political resolution to Nnamdi Kanu’s case while insisting that the Federal High Court’s ruling must be respected.

Speaking on Sunday, Kalu said insecurity in Igboland had claimed over 30,000 lives, yet public reactions to Kanu’s sentencing remained largely emotional. He lamented that many businesses had shut down and countless people had lost jobs due to the crisis.

Kalu recalled playing a key role in Kanu’s 2017 release, noting he had asked then-President Muhammadu Buhari to free Kanu before he joined the APC. While supporting a political approach, he warned the government must not appear to condone wrongdoing.

He described Justice Omotoso’s ruling as a valid court judgment that should not be attacked, saying Kanu’s legal team was free to pursue the matter at the appellate court. Kalu added that he would engage the Attorney General and the Presidency on political options for resolving the issue.

However, he maintained that anyone involved in killings must face trial. He also condemned unruly conduct in court, emphasising that disagreements should be addressed legally, not through insults.

Kalu further claimed that rising insecurity nationwide is politically motivated, both locally and internationally, similar to the pressure faced by former President Goodluck Jonathan. He expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu is capable of addressing the situation and securing the release of all kidnapped victims.
