Senate Dissolves Air Force and National Security Committees, Orders Urgent Briefings
The Senate has dissolved its standing committees on Air Force, National Security, and Intelligence, directing that new committees be reconstituted within one week.

The decision followed Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele’s criticism of the committees’ oversight performance. Chairmen of the committees on Army, Navy, Defence, Interior, and Police Affairs were instructed to brief the Senate within a week during a closed session on efforts to curb insecurity and justify their continued existence.
The upper chamber also launched a probe into the withdrawal of security troops from a Kebbi school before a bandit attack, mandating joint investigations by the committees on Army, Defence, Police Affairs, Interior, and Special Duties, with findings due in two weeks. The probe will also examine the circumstances surrounding the killing of Brigadier General Uba.
In addition, the Senate resolved that its leadership should meet immediately with President Bola Tinubu to brief him on the resolutions adopted during the security debate and agreed to pursue diplomatic engagements with the United States to address rising insecurity in the country.
