The Red Boat of His Majesty Ògíamè Atuwatse III Leads Grand Regatta to Ancestral Homeland

Ode-Itsekiri (Big Warri), Delta State – In a breathtaking display of cultural pride and ancestral homage, the Red Boat of His Majesty, Ògíamè Atuwatse III, CFR, today led a majestic regatta to the historic island of Ode-Itsekiri, the ancestral home of the Itsekiri people.

The colourful procession featured a spectacular fleet of boats, each uniquely adorned with the regalia and vibrant colours representing various Itsekiri communities, families, and groups. Sailing in unity, the regatta served as a powerful symbol of the enduring bond shared across the Iwere nation, celebrating heritage, unity, and the unbroken lineage of the Warri Kingdom.

This remarkable waterway journey not only reaffirmed the sovereignty and legacy of the Warri throne, but also echoed a vision for the future—one marked by progress, unity, and enlightened leadership under His Majesty’s reign.

Upon arrival at Ode-Itsekiri, a solemn and deeply symbolic homage-paying ceremony commenced. Chiefs, dignitaries, and subjects gathered in reverence to honour the ancestral roots of the kingdom and the revered throne of the Olu of Warri. This traditional ritual remains a cornerstone of the Iwere people’s cultural identity and reverence for their monarch.

As part of the ongoing 4th Coronation Anniversary Celebrations, festivities will continue today with a vibrant cultural showcase on the sacred grounds of Aghofen.
