U.S CRITICISES NIGERIA’S IMPORT BAN ON AGRICULTURE, PHARMACEUTICAL GOODS, OTHERS

The United States Government has grown at the Federal Government of Nigeria for banning 25 categories of goods importation from America to Nigeria.

The restricted goods are beef, pork, poultry, fruit juices, alcoholic beverages,medicaments; pharmaceutical and medical supplies and others.

United States Trade Representative, via its X handle said the Nigeria’s import ban on those categories of goods, is seen as significant barriers to trade and limits market access for American exporters.

This is however, notwithstanding that, just recently, President Donald Trump introduced new tariff on goods entering the US, with Nigeria facing a 14 per cent duty.

The USTR highlighted the impact of Nigeria’s import ban on various sectors, particularly agriculture, pharmaceuticals, beverages, and consumer goods.

According to the agency, the limitations will reduce export opportunities for US businesses and lead to lost revenue.

“Nigeria’s import ban on 25 different product categories impacts U.S. exporters, particularly in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, beverages, and consumer goods.

“Restrictions on items like beef, pork, poultry, fruit juices, medicaments, and spirits limit U.S. market access and reduce export opportunities.

“These policies create significant trade barriers that lead to lost revenue for U.S. businesses looking to expand in the Nigerian market.”
