U.S. Embassy Delegation Meets Tinubu’s SSA Dr. Abiodun Essiet on Middle Belt Peace Initiatives

A delegation from the Embassy of the United States of America in Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting efforts aimed at addressing conflict drivers and strengthening social harmony across the Middle Belt region.

The delegation, led by the Embassy’s Deputy Political Counsellor, Dianna Palequin, alongside the Human Rights Officer and Dave Young, gave the assurance on Friday during a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement (North Central), Dr. Abiodun Essiet, in Abuja.

The discussions focused on the Federal Government’s ongoing community engagement efforts—coordinated through Dr. Essiet’s office—to promote peace, deepen social cohesion, and address the root causes of insecurity across affected communities.

Both parties emphasised the urgent need for sustained collaboration, noting that strengthening partnerships remains critical to tackling long-standing security challenges in the region.

Dr. Essiet, in her remarks, commended the Embassy for its continued interest in peacebuilding initiatives and reiterated that the Tinubu administration is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all Nigerians.

She recalled her office’s recent engagement with community stakeholders, during which extensive discussions were held on fostering peaceful coexistence and enhancing social cohesion across the North Central zone.
