Ugochinyere Defects from PDP to APP, Cites Leadership Crisis
Ikenga Ugochinyere, representing Ideato North and South federal constituency of Imo State, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Action Peoples Party (APP).
Speaking at a rally in Akokwa, Ideato South LGA, Ugochinyere said irreconcilable differences and a leadership crisis within the PDP informed his decision. He claimed the party disqualified him from its primaries, took him to court to vacate his seat, and failed to support him during periods of political attacks.
The lawmaker alleged that his billboards were destroyed, supporters arrested, and that he survived assassination attempts and faced multiple “trumped-up charges.” He also accused security agencies of failing to act on reported attacks on his property.
Ugochinyere said the PDP ignored warnings about internal threats, forcing him to seek what he described as a more stable platform. He praised the APP as a party that rewards hard work and protects the sanctity of the ballot.
