Wife of Gokana Council boss, Mrs Favour Gokpa led a protest to agitate the completion of Aleto road project.

Rivers State

Women from Eleme Local Government Area, led by Mrs. Favour Brain Gokpa, Wife of the LGA Chairman, took to the streets to protest at the Aleto Bridge in Rivers State. Their demand: urgent completion of the bridge and East-West road by the Federal Government and RCC.

The protest comes on the heels of a tragic incident where Gibson Rueben, MD/CEO of Rivers State Cassava Project Limited, was ambushed by armed robbers on Monday night. His vehicle plunged into the Eleme River, resulting in his death.

The women, in solidarity with Eleme youths, are giving the FG and RCC a 14-day ultimatum to commence serious work on the road. Failure to do so will result in the youths occupying the road.

The protesters accuse the Federal Government of politicizing the road project, citing the absence of workmen, contractors and equipments on-site. They also blame the deplorable road conditions for enabling criminal activities, including the recent ambush that claimed Rueben’s life.

The women are calling on the Minister of Works to demonstrate commitment to completing the project. With their voices heard, will the government respond to their demands?
