Gov Otu Receives Holcim Group, Assures Investors of Favourable Climate in Cross River
Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, has assured Holcim Group, new majority owners of Lafarge Africa Plc, of his administration’s commitment to creating a safe and enabling environment for investments in the state.
Receiving a delegation of the cement giant in Calabar, Otu welcomed Holcim’s expanded global capacity and praised its corporate social responsibility efforts, noting that the long-standing partnership with Lafarge had strengthened community development and livelihoods.
“What excites me most is that beyond cement, you are bringing new investments in areas like waste management and infrastructure. This marriage will be a strong one, and I assure you Cross River is stable, safe, and open for business,” Otu said.
He pledged readiness to partner with Holcim on infrastructure projects such as jetties and terminals, adding that the state’s natural resources and development plans make it a prime investment destination.
Holcim Vice President, Mr. Xu Gang, reaffirmed the group’s commitment to deepen investments in Nigeria, especially in Cross River, while promising more support for skills development and sustainability.
Group MD/CEO of Lafarge Africa, Mr. Lolu Alade Akinyemi, described the Mfamosing plant as critical to Nigeria’s economy and praised Governor Otu’s investor-friendly approach, assuring that Holcim’s entry would boost jobs, training, and community growth.
The visit followed Holcim’s acquisition of majority shares in Lafarge Africa, signaling plans to expand operations into aggregates, waste management, and infrastructure solutions.
