Borno State Varsity Names Ooni of Ife Chancellor
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has been appointed Chancellor of the Borno State-owned Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU).
His investiture will take place on January 3, 2026 during the university’s first combined convocation ceremony, where honorary doctorate degrees will also be conferred on the monarch and industrialist Mohammed Indimi.
Vice-Chancellor of KIU, Prof. Babagana Gutti, who disclosed this on Thursday in Maiduguri, said the appointment was made by the state government and approved by Governor Babagana Zulum.
Prof. Gutti said the university is set to introduce courses in artificial intelligence, computing, cybersecurity and other advanced technologies to better position youths in Borno State and Nigeria for future opportunities. He added that efforts are underway to integrate Almajiri children into formal education, noting that tackling illiteracy is critical to combating terrorism in the North-East.
“At its inception in 2016, the university had four faculties. It has since expanded to include Engineering and Health Sciences, while postgraduate programmes and new faculties of Law, Environmental Sciences and Computing have been approved,” he said. New programmes such as Arabic, Physical and Health Education, and Library Science will also be introduced.
The university will graduate 2,294 students across three academic sessions: 523 from the 2021/2023 session, 489 from 2023/2024, and 1,282 from the 2024/2025 session, including several First Class graduates.
Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to attend the ceremony.
